A first fast-charge station for electric vehicles in the Outaouais region

The Electric Circuit is very pleased to announce the signing of a partnership agreement with the municipality of Montebello, as well as the commissioning of a fast-charge station for electric vehicles. Visitors can now charge their cars in the parking lot of the tourism information office, located at 502, rue Notre-Dame in Montebello.

This is the first public fast-charge station in the region. This initiative was made possible thanks to the personal contribution of Sylvain Michaud, an optometrist from Gatineau and the Regional Associate Director for Outaouais at the Association des véhicules électrique du Québec (AVEQ), as well as the support of Nissan Canada. The fast-charge network is growing rapidly and now offers 19 stations in Québec. Additional fast-charge stations are planned in the Outaouais region, including in Gatineau and L’Ange-Gardien.

“This partnership between the municipality of Montebello and the Electric Circuit will help encourage more electric vehicles to take to the roads in Québec and in the Papineau riding. With the numerous actions taken over recent years, our government is reaffirming its commitment to promoting electric vehicles and transportation electrification. We are supporting Québec’s economic development, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and our oil consumption,” said Alexandre Iracà, MNA for Papineau.

“As a major tourism destination in the MRC of Papineau, the municipality of Montebello needed to install such an infrastructure. The charging station will have economic spinoffs for local businesses and will offer increased visibility for us over the coming years. In addition, Montebello wants this project to demonstrate its concrete commitment to sustainable development,” said Luc Ménard, Mayor of Montebello

“My donation enabled the installation of the fast-charge station in Montebello: a popular stopover on the Gatineau-Montréal route. This is the first such partnership in Québec. I hope this gesture will lead to additional ones so that transportation electrification will progress throughout the province. Québec has all of the ingredients to become a world leader in the field,” added Sylvain Michaud, Regional Associate Director for Outaouais at the AVEQ.

The Electric Circuit is continuing its development in the Outaouais, where there are now 29 public charging stations in Chénéville (1 charging station), Gatineau (24 charging stations), Montebello (2 charging stations, including one fast-charge), Namur (1 charging station) and Thurso (1 charging station).

About the Electric Circuit
The Electric Circuit is the largest public charging network in Québec. It is a major initiative in the implementation of the infrastructure required to support the adoption of plug-in electric vehicles in Québec. The network comprises over 480 public charging stations, including 19 fast-charge stations, operating across 16 Québec regions. Since its launch in March 2012, 120 private and institutional partners have joined the Electric Circuit, and the network now has over 5,000 members.

Electric Circuit users have access to a 24/7 telephone help line run by CAA-Québec, as well as a charging-station locator service. The Electric Circuit Web site theelectriccircuit.com and the mobile app for iOS and Android are updated as new stations are commissioned. The Electric Circuit card also allows users to access VERnetwork’s 150 Québec charging stations.
