The MRC of Charlevoix has partnered with the Electric Circuit and the six municipalities on its territory to provide a network of six public charging stations—one in each municipality—and a fast-charge station in Baie-Saint-Paul. In so doing, the MRC of Charlevoix becomes the 150th partner of the Electric Circuit.

The Electric Circuit charging stations are the first to be commissioned on the territory of the MRC of Charlevoix. Half of the funds invested by the MRC in the public charging network come from duties paid by EDF EN Canada. The purchase of the charging stations was also made possible by the financial contribution of the Electric Circuit and the six local municipalities.

“Our region is a favorite tourist attraction for people from all over North America. Given that tourists increasingly choose to protect the environment by driving an electric vehicle, it was imperative for the MRC of Charlevoix to purchase these charging stations, which people living in the region will also be able to use. I congratulate our government and Hydro-Québec for building a network with some 700 charging stations in Québec,” stated Caroline Simard, MNA for Charlevoix–Côte-de-Beaupré.

“The public charging stations will be an asset for the MRC of Charlevoix. This is excellent news for all the citizens, visitors and tourists who requested the charging stations,” Ms. Claudette Simard, the Prefect of the MRC, noted with pride.

“With this new service, we are able to strengthen our tourism infrastructure, contribute to sustainable development and help preserve the quality of our environment by providing EV drivers with viable solutions,” added Baie-Saint-Paul Mayor Jean Fortin.

“We are very happy to welcome the MRC of Charlevoix and its municipalities as the 150th partner of the Electric Circuit. We congratulate the MRC for supporting transportation electrification, and in particular, the development of the public charging network for electric vehicles. The addition of these charging stations in Charlevoix is a significant gain for EV drivers, who will now be able to travel more easily along Route 138 and between the municipalities of this magnificent region,” stated France Lampron, Director – Transportation Electrification at Hydro-Québec.

With these new charging stations, the Capitale-Nationale region now has 80 charging stations in service, including five fast-charge stations.

By choosing to install the charging stations in the centre of the villages and in downtown Baie-Saint-Paul, the MRC of Charlevoix is pursuing its objective of contributing to the economic development of its territory. Indeed, while they charge their cars, EV owners and their passengers will be able to visit local attractions and cultural and agritourism establishments or shop in businesses and grocery stores.

About the Electric Circuit

The Electric Circuit is the largest public charging network in Québec. It is a major initiative in the implementation of the infrastructure required to support the adoption of plug-in electric vehicles in the province. The network comprises over 710 public charging stations, including 51 fast-charge stations, operating across 16 Québec regions. Since its launch in March 2012, 150 private and institutional partners have joined the Electric Circuit, and the network now has over 9,100 members.

Electric Circuit users also have access to a 24/7 telephone help line run by CAA-Québec, as well as a charging station locator service. The Electric Circuit Web site, theelectriccircuit.com, and the mobile app for iOS and Android are updated as new stations are commissioned. The Electric Circuit card also allows users to access the 150 Québec charging stations of the FLO network (formerly the VERnetwork).
