Referendum in Maine Hydro-Québec initiates legal proceedings to protect its commitments under the New England Clean Energy Connect project

Montréal, Québec – November 5, 2021 – Further to the filing of a lawsuit by its American partner, Hydro-Québec is also challenging the November 2, 2021 referendum initiative on the development of electric transmission line projects in Maine. Yesterday, Hydro-Québec presented a motion to the Maine Superior Court to intervene in the case in order to submit a number of legal arguments. Notably, Hydro-Québec wishes to see the constitutional protections provided by the State of Maine and the United States recognized with respect to its contractual obligations with U.S. companies and the State of Maine.
