Press Release

Pipeline inspection progressing well

A fault has been identified

Inspection of Hydro-Québec’s pipeline is progressing well and the fault that may be the cause of the leak at Cap-aux-Meules on September 11 has been identified. Analyses have allowed us to situate it in the Cap-aux-Meules harbor area.

Hydro-Québec is continuing inspection work to confirm the integrity of the rest of the pipeline before moving on to the repair stage. However, we have every reason to believe that the affected zone is within the delimited area.

At the same time, Hydro-Québec is continuing containment and recovery efforts in conjunction with specialized companies. Recovery is now being done using a technique that allows oil to be separated from water. So far, more than 11,000 litres of oil have been recovered.

All means and resources necessary are being deployed to conscientiously clean up the site and carry out the required repairs. Hydro-Québec is working in close collaboration with the municipality, affected local associations and the Ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement et Lutte contre les changements climatiques.
