Press Release
Local businesses offer charging stations for electric vehiclesElectric transportation takes off in Sorel-Tracy
The founding partners of the Electric Circuit—Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert, RONA, METRO, the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) and Hydro-Québec—are pleased to announce the commissioning of two public charging stations for electric vehicles in Sorel-Tracy. After the city joined the Electric Circuit, the St-Hubert restaurant and Chalifoux dairy followed suit and now offer residents and visitors two new locations to charge electric vehicles: in the parking lot of the St-Hubert restaurant (381, boulevard Fiset) and at Chalifoux dairy (1049, boulevard Fiset).
“We welcome the involvement of Sorel-Tracy and the local businesses who are promoting clean and sustainable transportation in their region by offering a public charging infrastructure to drivers of electric vehicles,” said the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and Minister responsible for the Northern Plan, Pierre Arcand. “Our government is committed to transportation electrification and strongly believes that Québec has the resources and expertise required to ensure its development. The Electric Circuit, Canada’s first public charging network, is an excellent example, demonstrating our leadership in this area.”
The new public charging station at the St-Hubert restaurant in Sorel-Tracy brings the number of charging stations available in the St-Hubert network to 23. Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert is one of the founding partners of the Electric Circuit. “The Electric Circuit fits in perfectly with our values of innovation and community involvement, said Martin Tiernan, owner of the Sorel-Tracy and Boucherville restaurants. “St-Hubert is very proud to participate in this important project that is continuing to expand across Québec.”
Chalifoux dairy is the first company in the agri-food industry to join the Electric Circuit. “Sustainability is at the heart of our concerns and strategic decisions, so we are proud to become the first partner in the agri-food sector,” said Mélanie Chalifoux, Vice President – Operations.
The city of Sorel-Tracy recently inaugurated its first public charging station at the Colisée Cardin and plans to install a second one at 3025, boulevard de Tracy. “The installation of these charging stations on our territory will help position Sorel-Tracy among the Québec cities working towards transportation electrification,” said Deputy Mayor André Potvin.
“We are delighted that these new charging stations will be available in Sorel-Tracy and are pleased to welcome Chalifoux dairy to the Electric Circuit,” said Pierre-Luc Desgagné, Vice President – Public and Government Affairs at Hydro-Québec, on behalf of the founding partners of the Electric Circuit. “The engagement of cities like Sorel-Tracy and these dynamic local companies will help promote the arrival of plug-in electric vehicles in the region while encouraging drivers passing through the area to visit local businesses to charge their vehicles. This announcement also confirms the commitment of one of our founding partners, Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert, whose invaluable involvement is making a significant contribution to the Electric Circuit’s success across Québec.”
Chalifoux dairy
A family company for four generations, this dairy has innovated and modernized continually for almost a century to become one the most renowned producers of dairy products in Québec. The 150 employees at its Sorel-Tracy facilities transform some 100,000 litres of milk from local farms every day.
Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert
Founded in 1951 in Montréal, Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert serve more than 31 million meals annually in Québec, Ontario and New Brunswick. The company has a proud tradition of innovation and constantly strives to meet its customers’ needs.
The Electric Circuit
The Electric Circuit is the largest public charging network in Québec, with more than 250 Level 2 (240-V) charging stations and one fast-charge (400-V) station in operation in parking lots of the AMT, RONA stores, Metro grocery stores and St-Hubert restaurants throughout Québec. Since its launch in March 2012, 64 private and institutional partners have joined the Electric Circuit. It will continue to expand in order to offer greater geographical coverage and serve more electric vehicles drivers in many regions of Québec.
Electric Circuit users have access to a 24/7 telephone help line run by CAA-Québec, as well as a charging station locator service. The Electric Circuit Web site, www.theelectriccircuit.com, is updated as new stations are installed or commissioned.
