The Electric Circuit is pleased to announce the signing of a partnership agreement with the collège de Valleyfield for the installation of a public charging station for electric vehicles. The charging station, installed in the parking lot located at 169, Rue Champlain, is now available to all drivers of plug-in vehicles.

“The collège de Valleyfield is proud to own the first public charging station on the territory of the MRC de Beauharnois-Salaberry. The initiative reflects the college’s decision to promote sustainable development and is a concrete example of our desire to encourage our students and staff members to protect our environment. We hope to develop the reflex within our college community to use our collective resources responsibly,” noted Guy Laperrière, Director General of the collège de Valleyfield.

“By welcoming the collège de Valleyfield to its network, the Electric Circuit continues to expand in the Montérégie region,” said Pierre-Luc Desgagné, Vice President – Public and Government Affairs at Hydro-Québec, on behalf of the founding partners of the Electric Circuit. This new agreement is significant because it demonstrates the confidence of a leading educational institution in the region.”

For Mélanie Bélanger, a third-year student in the college’s special education program and the owner of an electric car for the past two years, this is excellent news for the college community and the region. “As soon as I bought my car, I asked the college if they had plans for public charging. I am very happy today to be the first person to use the new charging station!” said Ms. Bélanger, who cares deeply about the environment and sustainable development.

The Electric Circuit

The Electric Circuit is the largest public charging network in Québec. It is a major initiative in providing the charging infrastructure required to support the adoption of plug-in electric vehicles in Québec.

The network comprises three 400-V fast-charge stations and over 300 Level 2 (240 V) charging stations in parking lots of the AMT, RONA stores, Metro grocery stores and St-Hubert restaurants throughout Québec. Since its launch in March 2012, 76 private and institutional partners have joined the Electric Circuit. It continues to expand in order to offer greater geographical coverage and serve more EV drivers in many regions of Québec.

Electric Circuit users have access to a 24/7 telephone help line run by CAA-Québec, as well as a charging-station locator service. The Web site, theelectriccircuit.com, and the mobile application for iOS and Android are updated as new stations are installed or commissioned.

Sustainable development at the collège de Valleyfield

The collège de Valleyfield is the only cégep in the Haut-Saint-Laurent valley and it offers 11 technical programs and four pre-university programs. Close to 2400 students are registered for the fall term. The school has various objectives related to sustainable development, including targets for reducing residual materials, promoting public transit and encouraging local buying. In addition to the initiative of installing a public charging station, the cégep also intends to encourage the community to opt for carpooling by reserving a number of parking spots for that purpose.
