Press Release

The city of Saguenay joins the Electric Circuit

The founding partners of the Electric Circuit—Les Rôtisseries St-Hubert, RONA, METRO, the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) and Hydro-Québec—are pleased to announce the signing of a partnership agreement with the city of Saguenay for the deployment of three public charging stations for electric vehicles. One charging station is available at the Jonquière library and the two others are located in public parking lots in the borough of Chicoutimi, one at the corner of Jacques-Cartier and Morin and the other on Rue de l’Hôtel-de-ville, near place du Citoyen.

The city of Saguenay made the decision to join the Electric Circuit with a view to sustainable development. In addition to benefiting citizens who own plug-in electric vehicles, the service will also be an advantage to visitors to the region, as this type of vehicle is gaining popularity in Québec. This is reflected in the choice of charging station locations: places frequented by many citizens and tourists.

“Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean is an important region for the expansion of the public charging network for electric vehicles,” stated Pierre-Luc Desgagné, Vice President – Public and Government Affairs at Hydro-Québec, on behalf of the founding partners of the Electric Circuit. “Thanks in great part to the city of Saguenay, six charging stations will soon be available to electric vehicle drivers in the region.”

In addition to the city of Saguenay’s three charging stations, a charging station is in service at the Cégep de Jonquière and another in the parking lot of the Hydro-Québec building in Chicoutimi. A sixth charging station, at the Hôtel Chicoutimi, will soon be added to the region’s charging options.

The Electric Circuit
The Electric Circuit is a major initiative in the rollout of charging infrastructure needed to support the arrival of plug-in electric vehicles in Québec.

The Electric Circuit is the largest public charging network in Québec, with more than 250 Level 2 (240-V) charging stations and one fast-charge (400-V) station in operation in parking lots of the AMT, RONA stores, Metro grocery stores and St-Hubert restaurants throughout Québec. Since its launch in March 2012, 57 private and institutional partners have joined the Electric Circuit. It will continue to expand in order to offer greater geographical coverage and serve more EV drivers in many regions of Québec.

Electric Circuit users have access to a 24/7 telephone help line run by CAA-Québec, as well as a charging station locator service. The Electric Circuit Web site, www.theelectriccircuit.com, is updated as new stations are installed or commissioned.
